Mallari, Mariella A. TMT-301 Week 7 - Airport maintenance To further understand this week's lesson, watch the video and answer the questions below: 1. Explain the importance of conducting regular or preventive maintenance in an airport? In the aviation industry, safety is the number one concern and we can assure it by conducting regular or preventive maintenance. It is a vital part of airport operations to ensure safety and prevent flight delays. As we all know, the procedures used in airport maintenance affect the effectiveness and safety of air transport. Therefore, the pilots should be assured that nothing will hamper their flight, particularly in the airfield to create a safe environment while they are on the ground. Conducting regular or preventive maintenance is essential because it can prevent large scale problems, downtime, and flight delays. Basically, it involves fixing any minor issues as they arise before they become more significant issues. So, without regularly scheduled maintenance the airport cannot maintain a high level of quality assurance because consistent inspection, service, and repair in an airfield are encouraged. 2. Discuss the benefits of implementing preventive maintenance in airport operation? The best possible safety for travelers, employees, and pilots is ensured by adhering to all required airport maintenance regulations. In the video provided, the Bahrain International Airport demonstrate how they do their runway maintenance wherein they thoroughly inspect and maintain the pavement surface of the airport such as slurry seals and do some pothole repair, airfield lighting systems, grass removal and crack sealing. That preventive maintenance has benefits for airport companies, but it depends on the type and complexity of the equipment a company runs. Alternatively, implementing preventive maintenance helps circumvent airport operation problem by eliminating any chances of a major breakdown or deterioration that improve the health and safety of the airport facility. It is also quicker and less resource-intensive than other forms of maintenance because the majority of contemporary operating systems, including assembly lines and electrical apparatus, contain performance management sensors. In addition, since unscheduled maintenance often costs three to nine times as much as planned maintenance, preventive maintenance is ultimately beneficial since it saves money. Indeed, preventive maintenance helps the business handle compliance and inspection requirements while reducing downtime.
