YOUR CHALLENGE YOU have 15 minutes to think and discuss where you believe have seen nursing research in action. Give the example, and what made you think it was research.
DISCUSSION What – makes you think this was nursing research? Who did it? Who was involved? Who was it ‘on’ Where was the research undertaken? Why did they do it? What were the reasons?? How was it done? When was it conducted? When did it end (if you know)? When did anyone know what happened?? What do you think your role is in nursing research? Who should do it? Why should they do it?

Nursing Research in Canada Before 1950 – apprenticeship of the nurse, and absolute authority of the doctor. 1950 – 1960: looking at clinical nursing problems 1960 – 1970: increased focus on nursing the profession with own theory and knowledge base - +++ journals Steller and Miriam – assessing research for application in practice settings. 1980s – more government funding = more nursing research, (Medical Research Council, National Health Research Development Program) . EBP becomes focus of attention of healthcare, and research’s role is highlighted. 1990 – NINR (US), and Canadian Health Research Foundation, and CIHI (Canadian Institute of Health Research) in Canada fund 25million.
