  1. What Are Interactive Electronic Technical Manual Standards? IETM standards, or interactive electronic technical manual standards, are the guidelines that help to ensure a standard for creating an interactive electronic technical manual. This means that any company that is looking to create an IETM will have a set of guidelines they can follow in order to make sure their IETM meets the required standards. These include things like: workflow process, content requirements, and formatting specifications. Let's take a closer look at these three elements in more detail! Workflow Process - IETM standards will outline the workflow process that needs to be followed in order to create an interactive electronic technical manual. This can include things like how many people need to work on a project, what kind of software is used, and any other requirements needed for creating the IETM. The goal here is to make sure the IETM creation process is efficient and effective. Content Requirements - IETMs are a lot more than just technical drawings, machine schematics, wiring diagrams, or other types of visual content. IETM standards will outline what type of text needs to be added in order for an IETM to meet the required standards. IETM standards can also include things like how much content needs to be added, what type of language is used (technical or layman), and the formatting style. Platform Requirements - IETMs are created on many different types of platforms such as Microsoft Office PowerPoint®, Adobe Reader®, PDFs, HTML webpages, etc. In order to make IETMs web-friendly, some type of platform is needed.
