  2. Industry landscape • More competitive market in global economy • Large emphasis on safety and environment • More technology to run operations and drive efficiency/quality • Fewer workers on staff • High reliance on contractors • Everybody needs training

HR challenges • Ageing workforce will need to be replaced in near future while capturing existing IP – new trainees • Ongoing training to meet safety and environmental performance - fit into already busy schedule • Training in new technologies • Fewer workers on staff - less ability to cover shift release to attend training • External contractors a major risk if not properly trained and supervised

  4. Train the Trainers • Everybody on site is a trainer • Training is not a core skill for many workers • Need essential skills in training others to make the training: • Efficient • Effective • Properly assessed and evaluated • Training organisations with real industry experience can assist

  5. Three-Day Train The Trainer Programme • How Adults Learn • Active participation/doing • Understand how the subject relates to them (big picture then specifics) • Multi-sense learning (see, hear, touch…) • Early feedback. Review, Practice, Reflect • Identify benefits and value of the learning

  6. Facilitating Learning • Provide a comfortable environment • Explain objectives and what is required clearly • Provide time for practice • Link new learning to old by learners discussing their experiences • Promote participation in activities (hands-on) and discussions (questioning)
