  3. About the Artist Cheryl D. Garcia is known for her skills in metal working. Her specialty is in Nature, perfect inspiration for our project. Here is some of her work. Click Here (End at 1:30)

  4. About the Artist 2.0 • “By taking this inspiration and applying it to our modern lifestyles, I have developed a fusion of art and function.” • “I use the most environmentally sound industrial paints on the market today.” • “Designed to maintain their luster and protective qualities under the harshest salt water and sun baked conditions, my color finishes will stand up to the test of time.”

  5. About the Artist (Childhood) At around age five her family settled in Colorado where Cheryl’s young eyes and imagination were drawn to metal, rocks and anything heavy – rusted tools, farm equipment, and broken and twisted metal captivated her attention. Today, she remembers with childlike glee the way rust flaked apart and left a chalky residue on her hands. Even the smell arrested her senses. “To spend the afternoon getting dirty outdoors, leading the neighborhood kids into the canyons and historic dumpsites scavenging for metal and other interesting objects was an ideal way to spend the day.”

  6. About the Artist Continued • Alife-altering event during a family road trip when she was eight years old is largely responsible for her becoming a professional artist. “As our family vehicle traveled down the road, my eyes were drawn to a 40 foot tall wild-looking structure out in the middle of the desert. I learned later on that this large object rising from the barren Bonneville Salt Flats was actually the 87 foot high ‘Tree of Utah’ sculpture by Swedish artist Karl Momen.” As the old pickup truck neared the object, her father pulled over to allow the family to take in the spectacle drawing Cheryl’s attention. “It was a life-changing event as I stared in wonder at the monumental sculpture before me. I knew at that moment that was what I wanted to do…it took my breath away.” To contact Cheryl, call: 415-564-8833

  7. Buddhism Buddhism is a religion native to the Indian subcontinent that includes a variety of traditions, beliefs and practices largely based on teachings credited to Siddhartha Gautama, who is commonly known as the Buddha. Buddhism has lots to do with nature, peace, and unity. (Considering they believe in reincarnation, if they kill an animal, it could be their brother!)

  8. Media: Steel Steel is considered a universal building product because of its strength, versatility, durability, and economic value. Today, standing-seam metal roofs are used for countless structures, including shopping centers, schools, churches, and libraries. According to the American Iron and Steel Institute, steel roof construction is used in nearly half of all low-rise commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings erected in the past several years. Another great use of steel is ART!

  9. Criteria 1.) Has to be a representation of Nature (Plant or animal 2.) Made out of Metal 3.) Be as creative as possible. Try to limit welding.Ex: Fold metal as much as possible. 4.) Has to be neat, not hurried 5.) Meets Art Criteria
