  1. Accessing the WA Library CatalogOnline

  2. Our Library Catalog can be accessed via the Internet. From the Westminster Home Page, click on Academics and you will find a drop down menu.

  3. To access the WA Library Catalog, simply click on the link.

  4. Type the search words in the “Search For” box and click on the proper box to locate the item in our library/media center.

  5. We’ll use the subject of Ancient Egypt for our example. Type ancient egypt (no capitals necessary) in the search box and then click on the “All Words” box. The next slide will demonstrate the results.

  6. Many of the titles can be found in the 932 location. The VC in the call number indicates that the item is a video. The J in the call number indicates that the item is in the Elementary Library/Media Center.

  7. By clicking on the item 932 LAN, the patron can find out more information about the book such as how many pages the book contains, subjects pertaining to the book, and a summary.

  8. The Secondary Library/Media Center currently has several items available electronically. This means that the patron can access these items via the Internet. One way to locate these items is to type “electronic resources” in the WA Catalog as demonstrated below:

  9. A variety of items are available electronically ranging from Fiction to Reference. Notice there are 6 pages of electronic resources through which the patron can browse.

  10. For this example, the American Civil War Biographies was selected. If the patron scrolls to the bottom of the description, he/she will find the “Click here to read this eBook (Password Protected).”

  12. To Log in to the Gale Virtual Reference Library type: remote.

  13. There are many resources available to our patrons within the Gale Virtual Reference Library. The next slide will demonstrate how to see the different resources available.

  14. By clicking on “Show All” the patron can see the specific resources available. For an example click on “American Civil War Reference Library.”

  15. The patron can browse through the eTable of Contents or the eBook Index.

  16. Find a term that pertains to the subject, locate it in the eIndex, then click on the link to jump to the information within the eBook. For instance, “Abolitionist movement.”
