1. The Roush Report Track 1, Second Grade July 28 , 2014 Parent Teacher Conferences I will holding first quarter conferences during the last two weeks of August. I will be sending a Sign-up Genius email out for you to sign up for a time that is convenient for you. Class Directory The Zickefoose’s are putting together a class directory for us. A form was sent home last week for you to fill out the information you would like to share with others in the class. If you do not wish to share contact information with others in the class, your child’s name only will be included. Important Dates Aug 4 -Go Play Save Money /books due Homework I have had a couple questions about homework so I will answer them here in the event others have the same questions.  When is homework due? Homework should be turned in by Friday of the assigned week. Please save all homework and turn in together on Friday. I will have the students staple it together before they pass it in. What words should we study?Always study list A however words used for assessment can be from any of the list. Please don’t forget to study and review past trick words. When do I turn in the Daily Language? There are 4 days of DL. Students should complete one day each night. The sheet should be completed and turned in on Friday. Do we have math homework every night? You will not have math homework every night. Math is given 2-3 days a week. Do we have to sign that our child has read 20 min nightly ? Please sign the agenda each night to indicate your child has completed their reading. The Agenda will change in August and there will be a separate section to record nightly reading. I will be showing students how to do this in class. Curriculum Corner Math: In math we are continuing to work on addition and subtraction strategies to build fluency with basic addition and subtraction facts. We practicing using doubles, making tens and counting on strategies to solve problems.  Reading: Our goals this week in reading is to continue work on the comprehension strategy of asking and answering questions when reading both fiction and non-fiction text.. We are also identify important elements of a text and how they relate to each other. Writing: Students are continuing to learn how to write within the atmosphere of a writer’s workshop. They are working on personal narratives and will use various methods to come up with writing ideas. Social Studies: We are continuing our unit on Community and Citizenship. We are identifying the similarities between rights and responsibilities as well as the importance of rules and laws within a community.

2. Class Directory The Zickefoose’s are working on putting together a classroom directory for us. If you wish to have your child’s information included, please fill out the information form and return it to school. We will only include your child’s name if you do not wish for additional contact information to be shared. Volunteers I am so lucky that many of you have expressed interest in volunteering in our classroom. I sent out a sign-up genius last week for both small group help and clerical. I am so fortunate that almost all of the time slots were filled. If you did not receive the Sign-up Genius email and would like to volunteer, please email me and let me know. Go Play Save Books Ifyou would like to purchase the GO Play Save book to support our school our deadline to purchase is August 4 . If you do not wish to purchase the book, please return it to school.
