  18. Yet “wisdom” offers rewards more valuable than the riches of this world, Prov 8:10, 11, 18, 19, and “folly” recommends the sweetness of “stolen waters” and the pleasantness of “bread eaten in secret”, vs. 17

  19. The guests of “wisdom” receive many blessings, Prov 8:34-35, but those who turn to foolishness perish and pass into the depths of hell, vs. 18.

  20. Prov 9:1,“Has built” BANAH, בָּנָה:“To build, construct or fashion.” Bring something into existence through a particular type of craftsmanship.

  21. 1st used in Gen 2:22 for God’s creation of the woman in the Garden of Eden, “fashioned.”

  22. Used for the 2 wives of Jacob, Rachel and Leah, who were said to have “built the house of Israel,” Ruth 4:11.

  23. Zech 6:13, a prophecy of our Lord as the “branch” who will “build the temple of the Lord”, as a King – Priest. Cf. Heb 6:20-7:1ff

  25. “Seven Pillars” Cf Ex13:21-22; 26:32The Word of God beautifully fashioned into the “woman wisdom” (Proverbs) by our Lord.

  26. Prov 9:2“She has prepared her food” literally, “she has butchered her slaughter.”

  27. This is not a religious feast, but one more on the lines with a wedding feast, as compared to the adulterous woman’s false worship preparation of Prov 7:14-18.

  28. “She has mixed her wine” This mixing sometimes means to add water, the picture of our Lord on the Cross, when His blood was mixed with water at the piercing of His side, John 19:34.

  29. Cf. Heb 9:19-20, with 1 John 5:6-8; Lev 14:6, 51-52, Ex 4:9; 7:17-21.

  30. “She has set her table” Always something planned or organized. Cf. Gen 22:9; Lev 1:7f, 12; 1 Kings 18:33 = Refs. to the completed work of Christ and the power of the Cross, the “Bride Price.”

  31. The picture of flesh, wine and a table set reminds us of the communion table where we partake of the body and blood of our Lord, based on His strenuous activity accomplished upon the Cross..

  32. … in the payment of the penalty of our sins. And by our partaking of the cup we are reconfirming our belief in Him; our acceptance of the marriage contract He has presented to us, His bride!
