  1. Do Now: While moving at 60 mph in a car, you look over to the car to your right and notice that it appears to be motionless. How is this possible? Teaching Point: “To explain how the motion of celestial objects is apparent.”

TP: “To explain how the motion of celestial objects is apparent.”Apparent Motion of Celestial Objects Celestial Object- any natural objects that can be seen in our sky, including stars, planets, moons, asteroids, galaxies, and comets. Apparent motion- the apparent movement of celestial objects (i.e. our sun, the star, etc.) in our sky from east to west.

  3. TP: “To explain how the motion of celestial objects is apparent.”Daily Motion and the Stars • Almost all objects in the sky move at 15 degrees per hour and appear to circle around the North Star (Polaris) • The movement is created by Earth’s rotation on its axis

Student 2- depict the motion of our Earth at a rate of 15 degrees using either 1) a series of pictures, or 2) a camera exposure of star trails over a period of 2 hours. Student 3- create a model of how the constellations in our night sky change as the Earth revolves around the sun.
