  1. The Crossing

  2. PIE Paragraphs What traits made Washington a strong leader in the Revolutionary War? Please write three PIE Paragraphs explaining three of Washington’s most important leadership traits.

  3. How to structure your PIE paragraphs: • Point: Adjective describing Washington • Illustration: Describe a scene in the movie in which Washington displayed this trait. • Explanation: Analyze how this scene illustrates Washington’s trait, and why this trait made him a strong leader.

  4. For Example: Washington was a practical leader. In the opening scene of the movie, Washington saw his men taking a long time and struggling to move a canon through the snow. Instead of wasting time with this task, he told his men to leave the canon behind and keep moving. This showed that Washington had good judgment. It was more important to him to save his men from the British than to preserve a single canon. This practical consideration and ability to think on his feet helped him to make tough decisions in consideration of the bigger picture when leading the colonies to victory.
