What do we really know about Healthy Nutrition and Eating? *The first two slides ask simple questions tied to the unit question to get the students in the zone to be prepared and learn about healthy eating.
What is so good about healthy nutrition anyway? • I will take this time to get answers from students and then lead into the K-W-L approach to get ideas from them on how to go about teaching proper nutrition habits for daily life.
Review the students answers • Then do another chart asking terms they know about nutrition on one side and what they know about them on the other side (a definition side almost).
Finally…. • I will go through and assess where I need to start in aiding my class in their journey through the healthy habit, diets and nutrition journey. • In all this research and quizzing with charts I feel the kids will bounce enough off of each others answers to give me a good feel on which direction to take first in the working towards good eating habits. • Another activity to do would be a survey dealing with the food pyramid and the kids lunches. The next slide will show something as an example.
Lunch Survey… Example of lunch foods brought on any given day,…..just how healthy are we???
In Closing…. • Take the example chart for instance….I can go and use that to help the children see what they should be bringing for lunch and compare it to what they thought was healthy. Then have a day where they can bring a better lunch and try it again with a new graph. • Overall, I believe the graph charts and K-W-L Chart will likely be my best option when facing this topic with a first, second, or third grade classroom.
