  1. Eco-Madness! www.ecohusky.uconn.edu Which residence hall can do it better in the dark?

  2. How the competition works • All residence halls in North, Northwest, Towers, and Shippee will compete against each other to see which individual residence hall can save the most energy and water. • The contest will run from September 15-October 6. • The winning building will win an ice cream party and a renewable energy offset certificate!

  3. Why are we doing this competition? • By conserving energy we can help reducegreenhouse gas and air pollution emissions into the atmosphere. • Using less water means reducing the negative impacts on the environment. • UConn’s water consumption has previously contributed to the drying up of part of the Fenton River. I am sad about the dry river!

  4. Be an Eco-Captain! • Eco-captains will be responsible for motivating their residence hall in saving energy and water • To be an eco-captain, email catherine.pomposi@uconn.edu

  5. How you can save energy • Turn it off:When you leave the room turn off the lights, or you can just do it in the dark. • Use natural light • Use CFL light bulbs for your room-They last up to 10 times longer than incandescent bulbs.

  6. I pity the fool who don’t save energy! How you can save energy • Unplug appliances when you’re not using them. • Set your computer monitor to sleepmode. • Run only full loads of laundry and wash them either at cold or warm water.

  7. How you can save water • Keep showers to 10-15 minutes. This can save 200-300 gallons per month! • Try turning off the shower head while shampooing and shaving. • Turn off the faucet when you are brushing your teeth.

  8. Stop the Drop • If you see a leaky faucet or showerhead, turn it off. A leaky faucet can waste up to 20 gallons per day. • REPORT LEAKS that won’t turn off at https://webcentral.reslife.uconn.edu/
