  1. Reading a Phase Diagram Insert to Lecture Notes

  2. Phase Diagrams • Help you determine what phase of matter a substance will be at a given temperature and pressure • solid, liquid, or gas

  3. Phase Diagrams Draw / Label

  4. Phase Diagrams – Draw / Label Melting / Freezing Boiling / Condensing Sublimation / Deposition

  5. Label - PHASES

  6. Label – PHASE CHANGES

  7. Phase Diagrams *** Melting can also be called “fusion” - on a graph, “heat of fusion” references the melting point. [Hfusion] ***Boiling can also be called “vaporization” - on a graph, “heat of vaporization” references the boiling point [Hvap] Honors Only

  8. Phase Diagrams – Draw Label

  9. Phase Diagrams • Triple Point – temperature and pressure at which a substance can either be a solid, a liquid, or a gas[ie, all three phases can exist simultaneously] • on the graph – point at which all phase changeslopes meet.

  10. Homework – On-Level • Complete pg 8 of your packet - Reading a Phase Diagram w/s • Done early? page 12 – elements to memorize - finish elements flashcards – - quizzes on 1-10, then 1-20, then 1-25 • Closed-note quiz on Monday over Lectures 1 & 2.

  11. Homework – Honors • Complete pg 8 of your packet - Reading a Phase Diagram w/s • Done early? page 12 – elements to memorize - finish elements flashcards - possible quizzes on 1-10, then 1-20, then 1-30, then 1-40, then all. • Closed-note quiz on Monday over Lectures 1 & 2.
