  1. 300 Movie: Bad Physics By: Chad Baker & Dean Woodring Pd. 2

  2. 300 Movie • A jump of Stelios cutting of the Persian Emissaries Arm

  3. Physics Property • The jump is not possible with the short running distance. • Also he only jumped off one leg.

  4. Spartan Jump

  5. Calculations • Height of Spartan = 6ft/6cm on screen • Measured Triangle on screen Horizontal =12ft./3.6576m Vertical = 2.5ft/.762m Diagonal = 12.5ft/3.81m

  6. Calculations Triangle: (12ft x .3048m) / 1 ft = 3.6576 m horizontal distance (2.5ft x .3048m) / 1 ft = .762 m vertical distance (12.5ft x .3048m) / 1 ft = 3.81 m hypotenuse Times 2 = Arc distance = 7.62m Time: 1 /3 Video Time (3.6234s + 3.6036s + 3.7554s) / 3 = 3.66 s Average Time in air Velocity: Vertical d=ViT+1/2gT2 .762 = Vi(3.66) = 1/2 (-9.81)(3.66)2 Vi= 18.159 m/s Horizontal V=d/T V=3.6756 / 3.66 = .999 or 1 m/s Diagonal Velocity a2+b2=c2c2 = 330.87 c=18.19m/s

  7. World Record Long Jump

  8. Calculations World Record Long Jump = 8.95m Average Time In Air = (.97s+1.04s+1.11s+.97s) / 3 = 1.0225s Vertical Velocity D = ViT + ½gT2 8.95 = Vi(1.0225s) + ½(-9.81)(1.0025)2 Vi = 13.77m Horizontal Velocity V = D/T V = 6.347/1.0025s V=6.207m/s Hypotenuse a2+b2=c2c2 =115.09 c=10.73m/s

  9. Conclusion • Spartan jumps 7.62m in 7.32s • Long Jumper jumps 9.85m in 1.0225s • Spartan takes 2 Steps • Long Jumper: Full out sprint • Spartan: Crazy Hang time • Spartan Travels Through air at 40.69 mph
