Welcome • Introduction of the Presenters • Learn about how we get in our own way and break our addiction to feeling powerless • Develop new strategies to take charge of our thoughts by redirecting negative thoughts into positive actions • Start to incorporate the changes we have learned about to get out of rut and be successful in employment and life

  3. I will never get a job! Myth Truth If unemployment is 8% that means 92% of people are working!!! You have experience others would not be able to bring Turn your negative experience into a lesson learned. • There is high unemployment in my area • The economy is in the toilet! • I’m too old to start over • I made bad choices that will affect me forever

  4. What the Mind Focuses on … EXPANDS

  5. The Mind needs to believe what you want is POSSIBLE!

  6. The Mind only needs to know THE END RESULT

  7. Companies have a disability quota Myth Truth Companies hire people who are likeable and have the skills they need • They won’t hire me if I have disability • They have to hire me because I have disability

  8. Communication • Verbal • Non Verbal • Auditory • Visual • Kinesthetic • Who is responsible for successful communication?

I don’t have anyone to help with a job search Myth Truth We all know people Who have I met in this room Family – all of them Friends, neighbors Church, social groups Bus driver, mechanics, hair stylists Former co-workers, supervisors. One Stops, job seeking support groups • No one will help me • I don’t know anyone • I don’t know anyone who is hiring
