  3. Mr. ZanaBouda, MHA, RHIa • 10 years experience in Medical Health Information • RHIA – coding • Prior experience with a smaller hospital and the State of Michigan • Joined JDDVAMC in 2011 as Assistant Chief Health Information Management (HIMS) • 2013 Assistant Chief Business Practice

  4. OVERVIEW OF PRACTICUM • Releasing of medical records on CDs • Cost/Break even point • Using current technology • More efficient process

  5. PRACTICUM OBJECTIVES • Internal strengths • Working with Veterans • Third Party requesters to accept • Accepting medical records on CDs • Ability to upload medical records • Ultimately CDs eliminating paper

  6. STATUS OF PRACTICM • 200 hours have been completed • We are in full swing of sending out medical records on CDs • We are complete with all applications with the uploading of outside medical documents to go into the medical chart • Employees are very fluent and eager to use CDs • The age of the Veteran has strong determination on who will accept medical records on CDs

  7. LESSONS LEARNED • Difficult to make change • Once change was made all were on board • All third party requesters and any request over 20 pages will go out on CDs, unless Veterans other when asked preference • Moving into the technology world can be a challenge, but one worth working towards • One thing leads to another
