The Church in the 21st Century:

Glorifies God

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.

1 Corinthians 10:31

The Church in the 21st Century needs:

A Lesson from the Past

I want you to know, brothers, that our fathers were all under the cloud, and all passed through the sea, and all were baptized into Moses in the cloud and in the sea, and all ate the same spiritual food, and all drank the same spiritual drink.

1 Corinthians 8:1

Spiritual Experience

Does Not Guarantee

Spiritual Security

Nevertheless, with most of them God was not pleased, for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

1 Corinthians 10:5

slide5

Do Not Desire Evil Things

Now these things took place as examples for us, that we might not desire evil as they did.

1 Corinthians 10:6

slide6

Do Not Be Idolators

Do not be idolaters as some of them were; as it is written, "The people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.”

1 Corinthians 10:7

slide7

Do Not Indulge in Sexual Immorality

We must not indulge in sexual immorality as some of them did, and twenty-three thousand fell in a single day.

1 Corinthians 10:8

slide8

Do Not Try the Lord

We must not put Christ to the test, as some of them did and were destroyed by serpents…

1 Corinthians 10:9

slide9

Do Not Grumble

…nor grumble, as some of them did and were destroyed by the Destroyer. Now these things happened to them as an example, but they were written down for our instruction, on whom the end of the ages has come.

1 Corinthians 10:10

Therefore let anyone who thinks that he stands take heed lest he fall.

1 Corinthians 10:12

The Church in the 21st Century needs:

The Faithfulness of God

No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.

1 Corinthians 10:13

The Church in the 21st Century needs:

The Fellowship of Christ

The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ?  Because there is one bread, we who are many are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.

1 Corinthians 10:16

slide13

Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness. Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.

And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your fathers served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Joshua 24:14-15
