APPRECIATION OF IWRM PRINCIPLES • Superficial understanding of holistic approach to water resources management but IWRM principles and processes yet to be grasped • People in academia and research institutions, few staff of FMWR, few NGOs are aware of IWRM principles but lack experience in implementation processes • Majority of stakeholders lack awareness of IWRM, therefore need to be sensitised • Informed stakeholders need to increase their level of awareness and be trained as trainers S18-Capacity Building Needs_Nigeria Dogara Bashir 9 Dec. 2004

IWRM CAPACITY BUILDING NEEDS • ToTs required in the following IWRM themes: • Development of IWRM Plans • Legal and regulatory frameworks in IWRM • Gender issues in WR management and development • Advocacy and sensitization strategies • Conflict resolution & water demand management • Stakeholder participation in decision making • Health impact assessment of WR schemes S18-Capacity Building Needs_Nigeria Dogara Bashir 9 Dec. 2004

IWRM CAPACITY BUILDING NEEDS • Capacity development of network institutions: • Provision of Training facilities • Development of library for the CBIs to stock relevant documents on IWRM for trainers and trainees. • Curriculum development to include IWRM Principles at all levels of education S18-Capacity Building Needs_Nigeria Dogara Bashir 9 Dec. 2004

IWRM CAPACITY BUILDING NEEDS Financial resources to: • Procure training facilities (LCD projectors, internet services, audio-visual aids, books, posters, etc) • Organise ToTs, training workshops, sensitisation meetings, advocacy visits, awareness campaigns, etc • Fund research activities • Produce workshop proceedings, flyers, posters, etc. • Pay for adverts, feature articles and documentaries in the electronic and print media • Develop curricula in schools and colleges • Strengthen networking among CBIs and trainers S18-Capacity Building Needs_Nigeria Dogara Bashir 9 Dec. 2004

  18. DELIVERING TRAINING AND EDUC.
