  1. UNCLASSIFIED / FOUO GA ADT Veterinarian Team Conducts Livestock Disease and Vaccination Training in Musa Qal'ah District Who: GA ADT Veterinarian Team What: GA ADT Conducts Resistance, Immunity, Disease and Vaccination training with local teacher and students When: 18 June 2013 Where: Musa Qal'ah District Center, Helmand Province Why: To provide essential livestock technical skill training that will be utilized by a local high school teacher to train young farmers in the Musa Qal'ah District END STATE/EFFECTS: The GA ADT Veterinarian Team conducted the first of two days of training covering the topics of Resistance, Immunity, Disease and Vaccination for livestock raised in both a compound and herd setting. Educating on the importance of proper preventative livestock programs will lead to sustaining more productive and healthier animals. In the absence of District DAIL Extension staff, this training was delivered to the local teacher to allow local educators to provide follow-on training and assistance to the farmers in Musa Qal'ah District. The participation of instructor Abdul Samad will serve as a building block to provide veterinary training until a DAIL Extension staff is established. SIGNIFICANCE: This training provided by the GA ADT Veterinarian Team established essential knowledge and technical skills that will be utilized by the teacher to educate local Musa Qal'ah young farmers on the problems facing local livestock. This is the second training engagement with Abdul Samad in Musa Qal'ahwhich illustrates a local interest in receiving valuable knowledge, that can be provided to others to assist with local animal problems. With this knowledge, they will be better prepared to educate others in their villages on the topics covered, and sustain a healthier livestock population. Ultimately the establishment of a permanent DAIL Extension staff will help link GIRoA to the Musa Qal'ah farming population through District led instruction. PATH FORWARD: By presenting training topics relevant to the regional livestock farmers, the GA ADT Veterinarian team provides a foundation of knowledge that can be shared throughout the District. This training will allow these students to be better prepared to assist with problems facing local livestock in Musa Qal’ah, as well as sharing the knowledge with others in the District.
