  2. October 5, 2009 Healthy Weight Commitment Foundation launched at the National Press Club in Washington DC. Pledged to reduce obesity, especially childhood obesity, by 2015.

  3. The First Lady Appreciates our Efforts Publicly announced our calorie commitment with the First Lady at the White House on May 17, 2010.

How Does FYBC Work? • Teachers go to: TogetherCounts.com • Elementary teams enter by identifying the Energy Balance need at their school • They create a goal statement to help address that need • They create a simple action plan to reach the goal by implementing healthy changes at the school • Team must engage school stake holders for impact • Complete application and enter by January 31, 2013

  9. Prizes for Schools • ONE GRAND PRIZE WINNING SCHOOL: • $30,000 grant • Ultimate Energy Balance Party • 2 SECOND PLACE SCHOOLS: • $10,000 grant • 3 THIRD PLACE SCHOOLS: • $5,000 grant

  10. What is Energy Balance? Energy Balance: • The balance of calories consumed from foods and beverages (Energy In) with calories burned from physical activity, activities of daily living and basic body processes (Energy Out). “balancing your energy-in” and “energy-out”
