INTRODUCTION TASK INFORMATION PROCESS GUIDANCE CONCLUSION Buying Your First House INTRODUCTION For several years now, you have been wondering how it feels like to live in your own house with “No PARENTs’ rules”. You read about a boy who built his own house. Now, you want to buy your own. This study should persuade you that you can afford to buy a house after graduating from college.

  3. THE TASK You will need to save for the down payment of at least $5,000.00 by the time you graduate. Next, you will gather information on five (5) houses you might want to buy. You will then narrow your choices to two (2) houses. You will research on insurance cost, and estimated monthly bills, and monthly mortgage. Lastly, you will create a PowerPoint presentation and share your information to your classmates.

  6. PROCESS You will start to add $100 each month to your savings account from your part-time job as soon as you start college. Create a table for four years in college using imaginary dates. Print a copy for your teacher. Create a folder to save all your files and name it “My First House.” Find 5 houses that you like most from the resources provided. Choose two that you like best. Prepare a spreadsheet for the two (2) houses you would like to buy including all the information specified in the spreadsheet. Save file in folder. Print a copy of the spreadsheet for your teacher. Create your presentation with a minimum of 5 slides and share your project to the class and convince your classmates that you can buy a house after you graduate from college.

Why? • How much are you willing to pay for in monthly bills? • Which financial agent will you choose to finance your house loan?

  8. CONCLUSION You now have an idea what buying a house entails. Based on the WebQuest, can you possibly buy your dream house After graduating from college? Why or why not? DREAM BIG . . . If you can dream it, you can have it!

  9. RUBRICS: MINIMUM PowerPoint PRESENTATION REQUIREMENTS: Did the presentation meet the minimum number of slides? If NO, deduct 15 points. Does the presentation show the correct spreadsheet used to compare total monthly expenses? If NO, deduct 35 points. Does the presentation show the accumulation of savings for four years? The student can choose their own style of showing his/her savings. If NO, deduct 10 points. Are all the attributes of the WebQuestin the presentation (completeness)? If NO, deduct 30 points.
