A Short Guide to Routing New Spark Plug Leads If you're new to engine repair and this is your first project, you might not be sure about how to route the spark plug leads from your LS conversion kit. We've written up an easy guide to help you make sure you're routing them properly. The first step, which is also the most important, is to always be absolutely certain that the routing of the spark plug leads to cylinders is in proper sequence. If it is out of order, you run the risk of cross-firing. Cross-firing can also happen if the spacing is too close or if you have accidentally run them parallel. This can be caused by the inductive field building up in one wire while, at the same time, the current flows in the other. In order to make sure that this does not happen, we strongly recommend holding all of the spark plug leads in position. To make this easier, try using brackets made of a material such as insulated metal, plastic, or fibre. The next most important thing is to make sure that those spark plug leads you've just installed from your LS conversion kit are kept away from exhaust manifolds and other types of metal in the engine. The high heat from the manifolds can damage parts of your LS conversion kit. Also, it will help reduce the capacitive voltage loss that sometimes happens between the metal and conductor surfaces. You can always identify a good spark plug terminal (like the ones sold by Malex Motorsports!) because they use a snap ring. The name comes from the fact that, when you put the ring on, it makes a "click" or a "snap" sound so you know that it's been put on the right way. The last step is to make sure that the terminals have a proper seal and then firmly force out all the excess air. We are here to help in any way that we can! If you are having any issues at all with your vehicle engine project, if you are not sure which steps to take next in order to maximise the potential of your engine, or if you need advice on the best LS conversion kit and/or associated parts for your project, give us a call or come down to one of our locations! At Malex, we are genuine car enthusiasts, too! We love to chat to our customers about their current projects. ---Powered By---
