Background • Humanitarian project related to Africa • Meeting with Mr. Sharif spark our interest in Southern Sudan Rehab Nova Mission Statement “To produce a reproducible scheme for a self-sustaining vocational and health center aimed at the disabled in Southern Sudan. This center will provide the local population with training, education and healthcare resources in order to reincorporate them to society”
It is assumed that 10% of the Sudanese population are disabled (WHO), although this is likely to be an under-estimate • Includes civilian victims from years of conflict. • The first center will be built in the city of Bor.
PURPOSE • Assist in the development of the Rehab Nova International organization through: • Fundraising • Raising awareness • Collaboration with the design team • Later on: • Amending of Rehab Nova’s constitution • Changing executive plan of Rehab Nova • Event-Civil Strife in Africa (Raise Awareness of condition in Sudan)
Challenges • Lack of accessibility of Mr. Sharif • Change in scope of project • Lack of information (Cancelled 3rd fundraiser) • Time management • Lack of urgency
Design Team • Professor Mann’s Architecture for Health Seminar Spring 2011: Assigned project • Meetings every other Friday • Created a holistic project, including energy sustainability and agricultural plan • Partnership with the Borlaug Institute

Events • Co-programmed event with MSC Wiley Lecture Series • Former “Lost Boy” Reverend AgokKuol talked about his experience. • Gave a historical background and presented the project.
