  2. Question 5- Art and Words Artists, craftspeople and designers are sometimes inspired by written sources. Narrative artist Sarah Fishburncreates mixed media graphic illustration combining image and quotation whilst Imants Tillers uses words and images to tell the story of Australian history. Textile artist Val Jackson makes garments embroidered with stories from her childhood and youth. Sculptor JaumePlensais inspired by literature.

  3. Investigate relevant sources and produce your own work, in any appropriate media, based on one of the following: • Either A) A poem, quotation or lyric Or B) A story, legend or fable

  4. ‘Narrative artist Sarah Fishburncreates mixed media graphic illustration combining image and quotation’ Sarah Fishburn • Sarah Fishburn is an internationally recognised artist, who describes her work as Mixed-Media Narrative. It is recognized for its unexpected yet elegant combinations of bright colors, photographic images, spray paint, transparencies, and words.

  5. ‘ImantsTillers uses words and images to tell the story of Australian history.’ Imants Tillers • As one of Australia's most significant artists, Tillers has been at the forefront of contemporary art for over three decades. Tillers explores themes of contemporary culture, from the political debates of the 1980s, to the effects of migration, displacement and diaspora. Most recently, his paintings have been concerned with place, locality and evocations of the landscape.

  6. ‘Textile artist Val Jackson makes garments embroidered with stories from her childhood and youth.’ Val Jackson • Val Jackson uses both collage and fabric to explore stories of the Mersey and the people and ships that have passed down it over the years, writing its history as it writes theirs. She includes text both to tell the stories and feature as part of the visual whole.

  7. JaumePlensa ‘Sculptor JaumePlensais inspired by literature.’ • Over the past 25 years JaumePlensa has produced work in the studio and the public realm. By combining conventional sculptural materials (glass, steel, bronze, aluminum) with more unconventional media (water, light, sound, video), and frequently incorporating text. He has begun to use paper as his primary source of sculpting material.
