  1. The GP Commissioning Game Taz Aldawoud and Catherine Taylor 8th November 2011

  2. The Game • Simulation of a GP commissioning scenario • 3 groups, each representing a CCG • A scenario will be given and each group must decide how the CCG will respond to this • Tool to stimulate discussion

  3. Scenario • The National Commissioning Board has instructed your Cluster to implement a 20% reduction in referrals to hospitals across all its Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs) over the next 12 months or face drastic cuts in funding.

  4. What should the board members do? What should they say to practices?

  5. War Veteran declined essential operation by his GP – has the Government gone too far in its health reforms? What do you need to do now?

  6. Renegade GP practices ignore Airedale CCG...where do we go from here? What do you need to do now?

  7. 1st April 2013 Airedale CCG Board Airedale BD20 6TD Dear CCG Colleagues, Re: Referral reductions The Bradford and Airedale Branch of YORLMC is the only representative body for GPs and represent all NHS GPs and practice teams on issues of local, regional and national interest to general practice. We have unfortunately been made aware that you plan to impose a ‘referral avoidance initiative’ and this has led to several practices wishing to leave the Airedale CCG. Please can you inform YORLMC of your plans to address this as a matter of urgency. We are of course available to act as an “honest broker” between yourselves and practices and/or individual GPs. Best wishes, LMC Chair & Chief Executive What do you need to do now?

  8. Discussion • Did you find any parts of the exercise difficult? • Which parts of the exercise did you enjoy? • Was there anything that surprised you? • How might the changes affect you in the future?
