  1. The Spaghetti Bowl (D-STAR Political Football) Rick Bandla (VE3CVG)

  2. Gateway Designs • Icom – USTrust – The Original • KI4KLF/VA3UW – NATrust ( aka FreeStar) • G4ULF – NI Star • ircDDB Gateway – Trustless • Others?

  3. Repeater Controller Designs • Icom RP2C controller, software by Icom • Satoshi Yasuda (7M3TJZ)board – the first non-Icom, firmware by Satoshi, app by Mark McGregor KB9KHM • Mark Phillips (G7LTT/NI2O) board, does not supply firmware, app by KB9KHM • Dutch board and firmware by Fred van Kempen PA4YBR, app by KB9KHM • Scott (KI4KLF)/Ramesh (VA3UW) linux and dextra-based software-controller (and GMSK interface) + simple PTT circuit

  4. Central Databases 1 • Needed primarily to enable Call Sign Routing to a specific station • US Trust is the first • 1 database for the world • Sometimes slow to update • No cleanup so becomes corrupted • Poorly documented, closed, closely-guarded secrets • Fragile • Also has dplus server database to keep track of • Multi Trust was the second • distributed data amongst several strategic servers • Much faster than US Trust • European servers removed when ircDDB came along • North American Trust remains as a scaled down version • dextra based • Now uses ircDDB

  5. Central Databases 2 • ircDDB • central redundant database • data is rcvd by gateway using IRCclient in Java using RFC2812 • data is sent by gateway using dsm • no interference w USTrust database or dplus database • open source • fast • Dutch • dpns or d-Plus name server by Fred van Kempen PA4YBR • Alternative to the dplus database (which only shows Icom systems) • permits hot spots, dvdongles, dvaps to “see” registered hot spots as well as Icom and non-Icom gateways • Does not interfere with other databases

  6. Repeater Radio Designs • Icom RP2000 (144MHz) • Icom RP4000 (440MHz) • Icom RP2V (1.3GHz Voice) • Icom RP2D (1.3GHz Data) • Friendcom Digital Radios • Modified FM Radios

  7. Network Designs • Icom US Trust System • Single trust (central database) • Can use ircDDB • By JRL and Icom HQ • Refined by several US amateurs • NA Trust System • Also known as FreeStar aka multi-trust • Multi-trust means multiple redundant DBs • uses ircDDB • Trustless System • Uses ircDDB gateway • Others • private

  8. The Problem • We would like it all to work together nicely • We would like any mess to be transparent to the user • We want it to be easy to use …. well, easier than it is now • We want it to be reliable

  9. Our Mission Today • To meet each other • To talk about the various combinations and their respective problems • To help us all use the networks effectively • To enjoy our hobby
