  1. Lecture 12

  2. Review of Systems • In bin Batch • Shallow layers 3.5ft deep • In bin Deep Batch • Less efficient-losses while stirring • In bin Continous • Hot grain moved away for storage • Only 1400 Btu/# water needed • Portable Batch • First pass dryer

  3. Dryeration • Remove hot grain at 1.5 % above safe storage • Residual heat will remove the 1.5% • Air is pushed through the bin • Problem with power vents so after ½ full, air is pulled through the top of the bin • No condensation on roof of bin

  4. Cooleration • Dry Grain to 18% moisture • Use 1.0-1.5 cfm fan

  5. Fan Types for In Bin Drying • Axil-low pressure • Excessive static pressure • If Additional fans are needed • Must be identical • In Size (Hp) • Mounted in Tandem • To double air flow- 4x’s more Hp needed

  6. Fan Types for In Bin Drying • Centrifugal • Tip speed of fan determines capacity

  7. Selecting the right fan • Size of bin • Amount of grain • Type of drying system • Moisture content of grain
