  1. Enoch Genesis 5:24

  2. Elijah Pride: “I’m the only one.” Trash-talker: Taunted the prophets of Baal Quitter: “I have had enough, Lord Take my life…”

  3. A Few Bible Heroes Who Were a Mess Too • King David: Adulterer, Accessory to Murder • Moses: Murderer • Rahab: Prostitute • Jeremiah: Manic Depressive • Joseph: Victim of Abuse • John the Baptist: Weirdo • Paul: Persecutor, had poor health • Samaritan Woman: Many failed marriages • Matthew: Extorted money, traitor

  4. Later, Matthew invited Jesus and his disciples to his home as dinner guests, along with many tax collectors and other disreputable sinners. But when the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, "Why does your teacher eat with such scum?"

  5. When Jesus heard this, he said, "Healthy people don't need a doctor—sick people do.”

  6. The church being a place for the sick is a concept that eluded me until I realized how terminal I was.” – D. Welsh

  7. What happens when we try to be something we’re not made to be?

  8. What’s Good About Being a Mess? • You are not alone. • You can show mercy—the self-righteous can’t (Good Samaritan)

  9. Then he added, "Now go and learn the meaning of this Scripture: 'I want you to show mercy, not offer sacrifices.' For I have come to call not those who think they are righteous, but those who know they are sinners."

  10. So what am I besides a mess?

  11. The World Will Be Happy to Tell You Who You Are! • Too old or too young • Too fat or too skinny • Unwanted • Loser • Better than somebody else • Worthless

  12. Don’t Let Anyone But Jesus Christ Tell You Who You Are!

  13. I am God's child.Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God -- John 1:12

  14. I am a friend of Jesus Christ.I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master's business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. --John 15:15

  15. I have been bought with a price and I belong to God. Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body. -– 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

  16. I am a member of Christ's body. Now you are the body of Christ, and each one of you is a part of it. --1 Corinthians 12:27

  17. I am powerful, loving and self-disciplined. For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. --2 Timothy 1:7

  18. I am God’s workmanship. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do. --Ephesians 2:10

  19. I am a new creation. Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come! -- 2 Corinthians 5:17

  20. I am an heir with the Father and a joint heir with Christ. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory. -- Romans 8:17

  21. I am saved by Grace. For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God. -- Ephesians 2:8

  22. I am redeemed by the blood of the Lamb. And they sang a new song: "You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.“ -- Revelations 5:9

  23. I am in Christ. You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. -- Galatians 3:26,28

  24. “Lord, you’ve told me who I am.I am yours!”
