BACKGROUND TO THE AIFF • Agreed at NSMC meeting April 2009 • To provide a mechanism for consultation on freight transport matters involving- - moving goods in a more competitive and sustainable manner, and - improving connectivity
BACKGROUND TO THE AIFF • Initial meeting AIFF January 2010 • Priority issues identified: - being competitive in a sustainable manner - safer, compliant, eco-efficient road freight transport - Rail freight and other alternatives - International connectivity - Network management
BACKGROUND TO THE AIFF • Lead organisation for each priority with TOR and work plan • AIFF Steering Group co chaired by DTTAS and DRD NI set up to ensure business of AIFF is progressed • DRD NI Central Statistics and Research Branch and Central Statistics Office leading on Network Management
Network Management Working Group Roles of group • document existing freight movement data sources; • assess North-South data comparability and highlight significant issues; • produce a report on findings and include key comparable data; • hold and facilitate a workshop(s) to capture data needs from AIFF stakeholders • conduct a gap analysis between existing sources and user needs; and • develop a prioritised action plan to meet needs and improve the freight movement evidence base in Ireland
