  4. “Redeeming The Time” • N.T. Greek used two specific words to deal with • the concepts inherent in “time” • Chronos –chronology, past/future, quantitative • considered as something dead, not truly existent; • eternity is essentially the lack of “chronos” • Kairos –primarily "due measure, due proportion," • when used of "time," signified "a fixed or definite • period, a season," sometimes an opportune or sea- • sonable "time,”…“season;”…“opportunity.” “When we’ve been there ten thousand years bright shining as the sun, We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise than when we first begun!” from “Amazing Grace” Ephesians 5:15-17

  5. “Redeeming The Time” TIME “Kairos” “the times and the seasons” 1 Thess. 5:1 “In due time” Rom. 5:6 Ephesians 5:15-17 “In due season” Gal. 6:9 “As we have opportunity” Gal. 6:10

  6. “Redeeming The Time” • N.T. Greek used two specific words to deal with • the concepts inherent in “time” • Chronos –chronology, past/future, quantitative • Kairos –“nowness”, an opportune time, qualitative • considered as living time, the ever-existent moment; • the opportunity of NOW; the essence of eternity Ephesians 5:15-17

  7. “Redeeming The Time” • N.T. Greek used two specific words to deal with • the concepts inherent in “time” • Understanding our responsibility toward “Kairos” 1 Thess. 5:1-2 – “But concerning the times and seasons, brethren, you have no need that I should write to you…” [cp. Acts 1:6-8] • details of time unimportant; you have work to do! Gal. 6:9-10 – “And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in dueseasonwe shall reap, if we do not lose heart. Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” Ephesians 5:15-17

  8. “Redeeming The Time” • N.T. Greek used two specific words to deal with • the concepts inherent in “time” • Understanding our responsibility toward “Kairos” 1 Thessalonians 5:1-2; Galatians 6:9-10 Ephesians 5:15-17: “See then that you walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Therefore, do not be unwise, but understand what the will of the Lord is.” Ephesians 5:15-17 “Redeeming the Kairos”

  9. “Redeeming The Time” • “Redeem” = buying up for ourselves • We must make the “season” we are given • truly OURS – Ps 90:10; Ec 9:10; John 9:4 • With what shall we buy up “kairos”? • We must “redeem” kairos from whatever • less important goals that our chronos • might be going to serve! Ephesians 5:15-17 Chronos is limited, we must use it wisely: Ep. 5:15-17; Mk. 4:18-19
