History of Krakatau • Past eruptions- 1530,1680,1683, 1927,1931,1937,1945,1997,1999,2000,2001,2007,2008,2009,early, 2010 October, march 2011, July and October 2011,2012 • It’s the most famous eruption in1883 is one of the biggest in recorded history. • The eruption in 1883 produced a series of tsunamis that smashed into 165 coasty villages in java and Sumatra • 36,000 people died when those giant waves hit • This occurred aug 26-27 1883

  5. More history • Some of the waves got up to 40 meters high • This tsunami managed to reach the Arabian peninsula

Extra facts • Krakatau belongs to the pacific ring of fire • This volcano has to different spellings names the American way krakatoa and the Pilipino way Krakatau • Elevation: 2,667 (813M) • Before 1883 it comprised 3 main islands • Recording of the atmospheric pressure at the time of the shock wave created by Krakatau had gone around the world 7 times
