  2. Spring Job Fair February 26 & 27, 2013 Perkins Building 2:00 PM-4:00 PM February 26- Social Service Employers & Vet Seeking OrganizationsFebruary 27- Focused on all employers Both days are open to ALL students.

  3. Who is coming? A list of companies is posted at www.career.eku.edu. • Remember- the person you least expect, may be the person who leads you to the job you want! You never know who knows who. • Have an open mind- meet with as many organizations as you can. • It would be a good idea to attend both days!

  4. Before the event

Prepare Your Resume • Update your current resume • Make sure your contact info is correct • Check the spelling • Visit Career Services or Co-op for a resume critique (You can set up an appointment by calling the offices) • Print resumes on nice paper- free with a resume critique at Career Services and Co-op • Bring at least 20 copies with you to the fair • Be aware- some recruiters may not accept your resume

Plan Your Introduction • Practice firm handshake, eye contact ( You may want to practice with a friend or visit the Career Services office for help perfecting your handshake.) • Prepare elevator speech • Know why you are there • What type of job you want • Be brief- 30 seconds! (Example- Hello, my name is John. I am a senior Marketing major and I am interested in market research.)

Dress Professionally • Professional Dress • Clean, pressed and professional • Dress for Success Closet (Career Services provides the Dress for Success Closet to help student look professional for interviews. If you need professional attire for the event, call 622.1568 to set up a time to shop.)

  8. At the event

  9. Check in • Check in at anytime- remember the earlier you arrive, the more people you will meet. • You will check in at the front desk and receive a list of all organization present. • You will enter the job fair and begin to network with employers.

Network • Elevator Speech- Introduce yourself with information such as your name, major, year, career goal, etc. • Have your resume ready and be prepared to discuss what you offer an employer/organization. • Ask questions ( A list of sample questions will be available at check in for you convenience.)

  11. Following up with a recruiter • Thank you notes (Sending thank you notes is an excellent way to show your appreciation for their time and set yourself apart from other candidates. A sample thank you letter is available on www.career.eku.edu in the resume section. Remember, the letter needs to be printed on resume paper.) • Social networking sites, etc ( Be aware that recruiters may look at your social networking pages after the event. Make sure your page is appropriate!! Also, remember that the people are recruiters, it is not appropriate to send them a friend request on Facebook. Linked In is a professional social networking site that may be appropriate for you connect with professionals in your field. If you are interested in linking to them, be sure to ask if you can send them a request to link. More information about Linked In is available at Career Services.   12. Quiz instructions Log into your Blackboard account Select the “Courses” tab on the top toolbar Enter “Career Services” into the Course Search box on the right side of the screen. Click Search. Click the two down arrows next to “3_career_services” Select enroll. The quiz is located under the Quiz tab. Questions- call 859.622.1568
