  3. Types of Reprographic Equipment Photocopier • Document Loader • Sorter • Paper Trays • Functions Keys • Most firms have at least one photocopier • Available in a variety of sizes also in colour

  4. Features Of A Photocopier • Provides exact copy of a document • Copies are produced quickly • Copies can be made onto card, paper, OHP transparencies • Documents can be fed in quickly

  5. Features Of A Photocopier cont. • Copies can be made in various sizes A4, A3 • Copies can be made back-to-back • Documents can be collated • Original can be enlarged/reduced

  6. Features Of A Photocopier cont. • Some photocopiers can staple documents • Can be adjusted for light/dark copies • Can produce colour copies using a colour copier • Some photocopiers require an ID code before use

  8. Ink Jet Printers • Text and graphics can be printed • Different paper sizes can be used • Relatively portable • Colour ink jets are available • Can print envelopes, labels and OHP transparancies

  9. Advantages High Print quality Quiet in use Relatively inexpensive to buy and use Disadvantages Relatively slow Suitable for short runs only Only advanced models can produce high quality DTP work Advantages & Disadvantages

  10. Laser Printer • Text and graphics can be printed • Different paper sizes can be used A4, A5 • Colour laser printers are available • Can print envelopes, labels and OHP tranparencies

  11. Advantages Excellent print quality Quiet in use Printing is relatively quick Disadvantages Relatively expensive to buy Costs may be high eg Toner cartridges can be expensive Advantages and Disadvantages

  12. Other Machines used in the Reprographics Department

  13. Binder • A binder is a machine which holds the pages of a book together • A Comb Binder puts a plastic spine on the book • A Thermal Binder uses heat to fasten an adhesive spine to the book

  14. Laminator • A machine used to heat seal documents inside a plastic coating • Useful for producing posters, Staff ID’s

  15. Scanner • A scanner produces an exact copy of a document or graphic for storage on a computer • 2 types – Hand Held and a Flatbed (see right) Scanner
