Advertising Tactics 1920s • Appealed to people’s want to fit in- EX) “If you drink Coca-Cola, you will look cool” • Offered other ways to pay EX) Credit Cards • Catchy words and phrases • Images grab attention • Images look colorful- pleasing to look at • Shows how using their product would be fun

Advertising Today • Same principles- but use different ways to display ads • EX) Internet, E-Mail, Television, Social Networking • In both the 1920s and today: -Advertising companies “forced ads down our throat” meaning that ads are everywhere-you can’t go a day with out seeing 10 different ads -Still use option of credit, or ability to pay later or over time to lure those with little money

  6. Debt • As a result of buying on credit and taking out loans many people went into debt • People did not pay their owed money which lead to the Great Depression

  7. Government in 1920s • More Hands-off • Stayed out of most problems but helped with some strikes • 3 Presidents were -Warren Harding -Calvin Coolidge -Herbert Hoover 48 star flag
