  2. IB HISTORY A group of talented, forward thinking teachers at the International School of Geneva, with assistance from several other international schools, created the IB Diploma Program. What started life in 1968 as a program for internationally mobile students preparing for university, has today grown into four programs for students aged 3-19.

  3. WHAT IS INTERNATIONAL BACCALAURATE? Three levels of educational programs: 1. Primary Years Program(PYP) - ages 3-12 2. Middle Years Program (MYP)- ages 11-163. Diploma Program (DP) – ages 16-19

  4. IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM • 2 years (grades 11-12) college level courses • Emphasis on intellectual, physical, emotional and ethical growth • Covers six (6) group areas:1. Language & Literature= English2. Language Acquisition = Spanish3. Individuals & Societies4. Sciences5. Mathematics6. Arts & Electives

  5. IB DIPLOMA PROGRAM • Requirements:1. Three Higher Level (HL) 2 year courses2. Three Standard Level (SL) 1 year courses (limit 2 in 1th grade)3. Theory of Knowledge4. Extended Essay5. Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) • Two kinds of assessments:1. External – exams in May graded elsewhere2. Internal – projects, orals, etc. graded by teacher • Must earn 24 out of 45 points

  8. HOW DO I GET INTO IB? • Plan your middle school course selection (8th grade):*Algebra 1 Honors (no less than B)*Spanish 1 *Advanced/accelerated courses • Get involved! • Attend Pre-Diploma Program Meetings • Apply to the Pre-Diploma Program winter of 8th grade
