  15. Summary The processes of high purity quartz (HPQ) formation are different for the investigated deposits and, thus, there is no general rule for HPQ formation. The processes revealed in this study include: (a) HPQ crystallization of massive vein quartz from hydrothermal fluids mobilized in regional shear zones at greenschist-facies conditions (Nesodden). (b) HPQ crystallisation of quartz from granitic pegmatite melts (NedreØyvollen). (c) Recrystallisation of quartz-rich rocks at amphibolite-facies conditions <530°C (kyanitequartzites). (d) Secondary quartz refinement at micro-scale related to post-crystallization shearing and fluid-driven overprint under greenschist- to low-amphibolite-facies conditions (kyanite quartzites, Nesodden). The list of HPQ-forming processes provided is surely not complete and further studies are required.
