  1. Changes the Liturgy

  2. The changes • At the start of Advent on November 27th, Catholics will adopt changes that make the words spoken during Mass in English closer to the church's official Latin • It adds dozens of small substitutions to the liturgy many Catholics pray instinctively. It's the biggest shift in the Mass since the Second Vatican Council

  3. The new Missal • Unlike Vatican II, the new translation only affects wording and does not alter the format of the Mass • It is the third translation of the Roman missal, the ritual text containing prayers and instructions for celebrating Mass • While not perfect, the new translation more accurately and meaningfully depicts the prayers of the early saints

  4. According to some, “the new translation is heavy on the transcendence” • Substituting “consubstantial for one in being” • “And with your spirit” for “And with you”

  5. Introductory Rites • Form A • P. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God,and the communion of the Holy Spiritbe with you all. • C: And with your spirit • B Form • P. Grace to you and peace from God our Fatherand the Lord Jesus Christ. • C: And with your spirit • Form C • P: The Lord be with you. (or a Bishop says "Peace be with you") C: And with your spirit.
