  1. What is ADDIE?

  2. Introduction In the instructional design profession, there are many models in which instructional designers can use to help them in their design and development process when creating an instructional intervention.

  3. Instructional Design Model The most commonly used model today is the ADDIE process because of its essential components. • Appeared in 1975 • Created by the Center for Educational Technology at Florida State University for the U.S. Armed Forces

  4. ADDIE ADDIE is an acronym which represents the 5 phases of the instructional design/development process which include: Analysis Design Development Implementation Evaluation

  5. Analysis The analysis phase of ADDIE process can be done at any time but it usually considered the first phase of the process. The analysis phase may include identifying the needs and goals of the instruction.

  6. Design In the design phase the instructional designer should determine the objectives of the subject matter. What will be needed to provide a strong and effective instructional intervention.

  7. Development The development phase may include the use of tools such as storyboards, coding, and creating all multimedia elements. Special consideration during this phase should be given to the types of multimedia and text that will be incorporated into the instruction.

  8. Implementation The implementation phase is when everything that has been incorporated into the instruction is delivered to the users.

  9. Evaluation The evaluation phase of ADDIE is used to determine whether the delivered instruction meets the learning objectives set forth at the beginning of the instructional design phase.

  10. Conclusion Although instructional designers have various process models to use to incorporate into their design and development of instruction, the ADDIE process will remain of the most commonly used instructional design models because of its essential components analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation.
