  8. Estimated Testing Times Times are estimates of test length for most students. Smarter Balanced assessments are designed as untimed tests; some students may need and should be afforded more time than shown in this table.

  9. Performance Tasks • The PTs are unique student activities that complement the field tests’ general test items and provide a deeper understanding of a student’s true achievement. • A PT begins with a classroom activity to ensure that all students have a common understanding of the contextual elements of a PT topic. • The PT is then administered on a computer, requiring students to answer a set of complex questions that are centered on the theme of the preceding classroom activity.
