  3. PARALLELISM is… -The balance between two or more similar words or phrases. -Parallelism is also called parallel structure or parallel construction. Parallel construction prevents awkwardness, promotes clarity and improves readability.

  4. In laymen’s terms… • Parellelism can be used to convert hard to understand sentences into easily readable text. • Example: “I like jogging and to play checkers.” becomes “I like jogging and playing checkers.”

  5. Used with elements joined by coordinating conjunctions • My dad likes hunting and to play sports. X • My dad likes hunting and playing sports.

  6. Parallelism is used with elements in lists or in a series • I can not decide if I like The Phantom Menace, The Clone Wars, or The Revenge of the Sith more. • I can not decide if I Like the Phantom Menace, The Clone Wars, or if I like The Revenge of the Sith more. X
