  2. Graphic Artists and Designers make all sorts of amazing artwork, such as the image to the right. They are needed in almost all industries, as they are often used to create banners, web ads, cover pages for magazines, logos, etc. Most graphic artists prefer lots of color and show their own view of art in what they make, while still showcasing the content or company they are trying to advertise.

  3. Education Required • In order to become a graphic artist, a minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required. • However, you do not need any previous experience within the industry to become a graphic artist or obtain a job as one.

  4. Abilities • Graphic artists must keep up to date with software and tools. • Certifications in graphic design software can give a competitive advantage. • Artistic ability is a must for all graphic design fields. • Computer skills are also needed, as most art is done with a tablet and through software. • Time management skills are also needed within the job field, to ensure projects are done on time (all artists like to be perfect, so this can be hard for most).

  5. Personal Qualities • Analytical • Artistic • Communicative • Computer savvy • Creative • Punctual • Good eye for color, shape, form, and perspective

  6. Salary • In 2012, the median pay was $21.22 an hour. • The median salary in 2012 was $44,150 per year

  7. Locations • Most large cities have high numbers of graphic design careers. Most notably: • San Francisco • San Diego • Los Angeles • New York City • Tokyo • London • Houston • Chicago • Paris • Amsterdam

  8. Availability • In 2012, there were about 259,500 jobs available. • The industry is growing by about 7% a year, which is slower than most other jobs. • Despite how much graphic artists are needed in today’s world, the industry is growing slow, meaning that more and more people wanting to enter the industry are finding it harder to get jobs.
