  2. Pronouns • A word that replaces a noun.

  3. Personal Pronouns • Personal pronouns refer to the person you are talking about or to.

  4. Personal Pronouns • 1st person- (must include me!)- me, I , we, our, mine, my , ourselves • 2nd person- (person you are talking to) you, your • 3rd person-(person you are talking about)he, she, they, it, them, her, him,

  5. Examples • 1-He 2-it • 3-she 4-I • 5-They 6-our • 7-My 8-you • 9-We 10-her

  6. Subject Pronouns • Pronoun that can be used as a subject in a sentence. Example: She went to the store. _____ ran down the street.

  7. Subject examples • ____ ran down the street.

  8. Answers • She, He, They, I, We, It, You

  9. Object Pronouns • A pronoun that can be used as an object of a sentence. • The policeman ran after ________. (me, him, them, us, it, you, her)

  10. Weird Pronouns • If you have a linking verb in a sentence, you must use the SUBJECT pronoun. • I am she. We are they • It is he.

  11. Possessive Pronouns • A pronoun that shows ownership. • Example: _____ shirt. • (His, Her, My, Our, Their) • That shirt is _____(mine, his, ours, theirs)

  12. Possessive Pronouns • Possessive Pronouns DO NOT have an apostrophe in them. • Examples: its food. Your mom • It’s=it is • You’re=you are

  13. Examples • (It’s, Its) my turn to read. • The dog is chasing (it’s, its) tail. • I want (you’re, your) food. • (You’re, your) answer is correct. • (You’re, your) not going to go.

  14. Demonstrative Pronouns • This, these, that, those • Example-That is my book.

  15. Interrogative Pronoun • A pronoun used to introduce a question. • Example: who, whom, what, which, whose • What do you want to eat?

  16. Who and Whom • Who is used as a subject • Example: Who is that? • Whom is used as an object • Example: To whom were you speaking?

  17. Indefinite Pronoun • A pronoun that does NOT refer to a specific person, place, or thing • (anybody, somebody, many, few, all, some, each, neither, everybody)

  18. Indefinite pronouns • Singular- one, neither, anybody anything, anyone, somebody, something, someone, everybody, • Example-Everybody depends on his friends for help. • Plural-both, few, many, several

  19. Indefinite Pronouns • When you try to decide if the pronoun is singular or plural, mark out prepositional phrase. • Each of the classes took (its, their) time.

  20. Reflexive Pronoun • A reflexive pronoun refers back to the subject. • Ex: My sister didn’t see herself as a good student. • (ourselves, himself, itself, myself, themselves)
