http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4onbsh1VNfM

slide2

If you were part of the government in 1914, what would you be worried about the people of Britain doing?

slide3

Learning Outcomes

  • Be able to explain what the DORA regulations were (All)
  • Be able to analyse why the government thought it needed to introduce DORA (Most)
  • Analyse the impact of DORA (Some)
slide4

At the outbreak of war, in August 1914, the government passed the Defence Against the Realm Act (DORA). This act placed a number of restrictions on civilians living in Britain.

It is your task to analyse the impact that DORA had on sections of society.

slide5

Task

Using the cards, you should consider why you think the government introduced each regulation.

Discuss these with your table!

slide6

Key Question:

‘What impact did DORA have on the people who lived in Britain?’

slide7

Task

Now you have discussed these, you should analyse what impact they would have had on the different aspects of the war effort.

Write an explanation under the correct heading on the table provided. You should explain how each restriction would help Britain win the war!

Extension: You should create your own headings for your table – you need to work out the different ways the regulations helped the war effort!
