  1. Daily Announcements May 1, 2013

  2. Boys Tennis Gilbert tennis ended its regular season in Region 5AAA with a 13-4 record. Gilbert split during the season with Brookland-Cayce to be Co-Champs for region 5AAA. Gilbert will travel to Hilton Head on Thursday in the first round of the state playoffs. All tennis players will eat lunch 1st lunch on that day to get on the road for the match. Wish these players good luck: Christian Duncan, Joseph Espinoza, Grant Babin, Drew Harmon, Tyler Craps, Ryan Busby, Taylor Dorward and Noah Hall.

  3. GHS Volleyball Volleyball spring practice for JV and Varsity will be held May 6-9 and 13-16 at GHS from 3:30-5:30. Any participant must have a current physical and medical consent form. Contact Coach Shealy or Coach Hendrix for questions.

  4. Lady Indian Basketball On Tuesday, May 7th there will be an informational meeting for any girl interested in playing basketball next season. The meeting will start at 8:05 am in Coach Thomas room #135. Please be on time. The meeting will not last long.

  5. Softball Update Friday night the Lady Indians defeated Hilton Head Island in the first round of the play-offs by a score of 8 to 1.  Gabby Keisler was the winning pitcher.  Top hitters were: Jenna Williams - 2 for 4; Gabby Keisler - 2 for 3 ( 3 run homerun); Kate Lee - 2 for 3; Lyndie Dorgan - 2 for 3 Last night the Lady Indians won against Georgetown 6 to 3.  Lyndie Dorgan was the winning pitcher. Top hitters were: Kate Lee - 2 for 3; Emily Jones - 2 for 3 Lyndie Dorgan - 2 for 3 ( grand slam homerun) The Lady Indians are now 18 and 10 on the season.

  6. GHS Golf Update The GHS varsity golf team finished 2nd in the region tournament played over the past two days at Hidden Valley and Lexington Country Clubs.  The Indians finished with a two-day total of 651, losing to Strom Thurmond by 11 shots.  Caleb Proveaux led the Indians with a two-day total of 151, and was runner-up for the tournament individually.  Caleb and Zach McLain made the all-region team. The Indians travel to Myrtle Beach next Monday for lower state.

  7. Congratulations to… …the GHS Choral Department! They “swept” the competition at nationals in Virginia receiving the following awards:Bel Canto - First Place, Superior ratingChorale – First Place, Superior rating AND 1st Place Overall! Congratulations to ALL the Choral Students and Mrs. Keisler on your hard work and outstanding achievement!!! We are PROUD of YOU!

  8. Attention Students, Faculty and Staff This week the center construction crew will pour the new sidewalks outside the building. The Student exit/entrance beside the Learning Commons will be closed/blocked April 29-May2. Please enter/exit through the gym entrance during this time. Thank you for your help with this!

  9. Reminder from the Athletic Office Playoff Games will only accept SC High School League Passes for free admittance.  Tickets will be $5.00 each.  No booster club or district passes are allowed. 

  10. GHS 2013-2014 Cheerleading Tryouts for Football Cheerleading will be held on May 7, 9, and 10. Next year, GHS will not have a competition team. We are looking for enthusiastic, spirited young ladies who are interested in representing GHS with pride. If you are interested in trying out for JV or varsity cheerleading, you must have a tryout packet completed and returned to Coach Newman in 410 or Coach Rogers in 224 by May 3. You must have a current physical in order to attend tryouts. Your physical must be on file with the athletic department—either from having participated in sports this year or by having a school physical this spring.

  11. Attention Seniors! It’s time to begin putting together the Senior Slide Show. If you would like other pictures besides your formal drape/tuxedo picture in the show, please get those in by TODAY. You can bring the hard copies in to be scanned, bring them on CD or thumb drive, or use the preferred method by sending them through e-mail.  If you bring in hard copies, please make sure they are labeled with your name and are in an envelope or Ziploc bag. Each senior is allowed up to FOUR (4) pictures per slide.  These should be school appropriate and tasteful images of you, your family, and friends.

  12. Senior Slide Show (cont.) All seniors whose last names begin with A-Lplease send/bring pictures to Mrs. Bentley in Room 231/232 or e-mail (jbentley@lexington1.net) All seniors whose last names begin with M-Z please send/bring pictures to Mrs. Hadden in Room 233 or e-mail (chadden@lexington1.net) Again, the deadline is May 1. 

  13. Senior Scholarship Opportunity The Gilbert Career and Technology Student Organizations (FBLA, FFA, HOSA, and Skills USA) are offering a $400 scholarship to a senior who is planning to enter one of the Career and Technology fields taught at Gilbert High. To apply for this scholarship you must be a senior, who is a member of one or more of these organizations. See your organization's chapter advisor to receive an application.  Applications must be returned to your advisor by April 30th. The scholarship will be awarded at the Career & Technology Senior Recognition Night on May 16th @ 7:00 in the Little Theater.

  14. Student Trainers Anyone interested in becoming a student trainer for the 2013-2014 school year please stop by and pick up an information packet from Coach Millwood in Room 525.  Student training packets are due back by May 11th.

  15. Attention Seniors Do YOU have perfect attendance for your 12 years of high school? Well, then you may be eligible for a Perfect Attendance Award! Each year, the South Carolina Department of Education (SCDE) honors graduating seniors who have 12 years of perfect attendance with a special certificate and personal letter signed by the State Superintendent of Education. If you think you are eligible, then see Mrs. Smith in attendance to apply for this recognition.

  16. Attention AFJROTC Students… All students who were in AFJROTC first semester, please contact Cadet Captain Nikki Bittinger about purchasing your Awards Banquet/Military Ball tickets and about further details. If you fundraised, tickets are $15, if you did not fundraise, tickets are $30 . The Awards Banquet/Military Ball is on May 4, 2013 at the Marriott Hotel in Downtown Columbia.

  17. GHS Events Wednesday, May 1 - Congratulations to the baseball team for beating Hartsville last night 10-6.  They travel to N. Myrtle Beach tonight for the next game.  Let’s bring home a “W”!
