  2. Purpose of the AVID Binder • Quickwrite – How does an organized binder add to the success of our students?

  3. Partner Share • What is the purpose of an AVID binder? • Why is it required of our AVID students? • What roadblocks will the AVID elective teacher face in implementing binders?

What It Says in the Books • A requirement for every AVID student • One of the first ways teachers will recognize AVID students • Students always have ALL their notes and assignments to make good use of any free time during school (and at home) • Parents must know of the AVID binder requirements and how the binder grade seriously effects their student’s grade.

  5. General Binder Requirements • Review HO #1 (General Binder Requirements). • Number off from 1 to 4. • In your number group, discuss the progression of requirements across grade levels. How does this progression compare to what is done at your site? • Make a poster illustrating this progression and how it is different from what is being practiced. • Present to the whole group.

  6. Binder Contents Check-off Sheet • Review HO #2 (Binder Contents). • As a group discuss binder organization and what to include. • How does this particular organization aide in studying for a class?

  7. Grading the Binders • At your tables, discuss how binders are graded on your campuses. How often? How much weight? What things are included? • Compare your grading policies to the sample binder gradesheets/checklists (HOs 3-9). • Report your findings to the whole group.

  18. Grading the Planners • Planners can be graded as part of the binder or separately. • Grade regularly. If you don’t place importance on them, your students won’t either. • Give students a guide for what you will grade each week. Look for regular and specific entries. • Other ideas?
