  3. Project objectives • Move GoodPurchase AD to 2008 • Create single forest system capable of 15,000 + objects within AD Corp. • High Performance, High Security mentality

  4. FSMO role needed for proper transition. • Will provide support with unified domain controller from which GP will be acquired into AD Corp. • Use ADPREP.EXE for file transition and replication from AD 2003 to AD 2008. • Physical Software upgrade to Windows Server 2008 after FSMO controllers created. • Conclude with ADMT for restructuring. Transition process

  5. GoodPurchase upgraded to Win Server 2008 Ensure server hardware is compatible with Win Server 2008 (physical check of servers). Ensure server hardware is capable of handling 15,000 shared objects (Ad Corp side). Backup existing directories for redundancy. software vs hardware configuration

  6. Pre-setup and backup process • Both systems must be backed-up for file protection from potential transition issues. • Verify with Slide 5 that all hardware is capable for installing Win Server 2008 and to handle all objects set forth.

  7. Upgrade additional domain controllers to co-inside with unified forest system. Raise domain functionality level to allow this transition. Encrypt process for security (128bit). Strict password policy. Post installation and configuration

  8. Verify with Slide 7 that the correct Domain Controllers were upgraded to handle the transition into AD 2008. Upgrade Forest permissions on the new AD 2008 to transition files into AD Corp’s Forest system (one unified forest versus two). Use ADMT to push GoodPurchase onto AD Corp system. Domain & Forest functional levels

  9. Concluding with ADMT • Utilize ADMT within GoodPurchase System to purchase new 2008 Active Directory into AD Corp 2008 system. • Create child-domain system for simplicity and security. • Identify source domain (adcorp.local) and target domain (gdpurchase.local).

  10. Overview on conclusion • Validate hardware capability for windows server 2008 upgrade. • Backup all important drives and servers. • Create FSMO role to assist with transition. • Use ADPREP.EXE to start file transition process. • Follow up with ADMT for migration.
