  11. STAAR is based on the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS). Most of the state standards, if they are eligible for assessment in a multiple choice/short answer format, will be assessed on STAAR. STAAR is a vertically aligned system.

  12. ---Continued--- STAAR is designed as a vertical assessment system: Learning builds between grades Learning DEPENDS on earlier grades Intervention areas are easier to identify Differentiation is predictable Growth measures are built in (score and concept) The STAAR performance standards for grades 3-8 will be determined in late October 2012 by the Texas Education Agency and will be applied when scores are reported to districts in January of 2013. Once the STAAR results are reported in January 2013, individual student results will be reported to parents. Since the state has not established passing standards, promotion requirements will not include the use of STAAR results for the 2011-2012 school year. For further information check the TEA website at www.tea.state.tx.us

  20. ASE Grading Policy Policy: The actual grade reflecting the student’s relative mastery of an assignment will be recorded. Reassessment of Groups: An entire class or group will be re-taught and reassessed when the teacher determines that half, or more, of the class have failed to perform at mastery level (70%).The higher of the two grades will be recorded in the grade book for each class member. Reassessment of Individuals: After re-teaching, the teacher may use a variety of techniques to determine mastery, which may include: oral questioning, observation, retesting, demonstration, additional assignments, or alternative assignments. If a teacher chooses to retest and individual to determine mastery, the higher of the two grades shall be used to calculate the average; however, no grade higher than a 70 shall be recorded in the grade book for that assignment. Late Work: Points may be deducted for late work.

  21. Snack Time! We will have a working snack mid-morning as our lunch time is not until 12:10. Please send a healthy snack with your child daily. (Nothing messy, please)
