  2. Demonstration Castling is a special move that is often used in chess where the king and one rook can switch places. It is often regarded as a defensive move and generally a good strategy, especially to move the rook out of the corner.

  3. Demonstration Castling is only legal if the king and the chosen rook have not yet moved in the game. Also, there cannot be any pieces between the king and the rook. Another rule is that the king cannot be under attack, nor move onto a square that is under attack.

  4. Demonstration Castling is moving your king two squares toward the chosen rook and placing the rook on the other side of the king. Click on the Steps to see the process. Step 1 Step 2 Outcome

  5. Application Assuming that your King and Rooks haven’t moved, select the board where castling is a legal move. That’s incorrect. Look at the boards again and make sure that you are looking at all the pieces. That’s correct! This board shows and opportunity to castle!

  6. Application Click on the rule that explains why castling isn’t legal on this board. 1. The King and Rook have already moved. That’s incorrect. 2. The King is under attack. That’s correct! Good job! 3. The King will be under attack at the end of the move. That’s incorrect.

  7. Application Select the which of the two is the correct method for castling. Move the king forward one square. Move the king two squares toward the rook. That’s correct. Now pick the next step. Put the rook on the other side of the King. Switch the king and rook. That’s Incorrect. That’s correct. Good job. That is the process for castling.
