  1. MJ3 Ch 6.2 - Triangles

  2. Bellwork • Draw and classify the angles 1. 2. 3.

  3. Assignment Review • None

  4. Objective • Students will find the missing angle of a triangle and classify triangles by sides and angles

  5. Before we begin…. • Ok…yesterday we discussed angles and how to measure them…. • Today we will look at triangles and find the missing measures • We will also classify triangles by their sides and angles.

  6. Finding the missing measurement of triangles • This is really easy – you need to know that all angles in a triangle equal 180° • Usually you are given 2 angles and asked to find the third… • How you do that is add up the angle measurements that you are given and subtract from 180° to find the missing measurement

  7. Example • To find the missing measure write an equation and solve 58 + 55 + x = 180 113 + x = 180 -113 -113 x = 67 x° 58° 55°

  8. Your Turn • In the notes section of your notebook draw the triangle and find the missing measure 1. 83° 2. 61° 72° x° x° 29°

  9. Classifying Triangles • Triangles can be classified in two ways • By their angle measurements and/or • By their sides • Here is what that looks like…

  10. By Angles • Acute Triangle – all angles are less than 90° • Obtuse Triangle – one angle is obtuse (greater than 90°) • Right Triangle – one angle is equal to 90°

  11. By Sides • Scalene Triangle – no sides are congruent • Isosceles Triangle – at least two sides are congruent • Equilateral Triangle – All sides are congruent

  12. Summary • In the notes section of your notebook summarize the key concepts covered in today’s lesson • Today we discussed • Finding missing measurements of angles in triangles • Classifying triangle by their angle measurement and sides

  13. Assignment • In order to understand how to classify triangles you really need to work with them comparing and contrasting their characteristics… • Therefore, today you will work on a poster to compare and contrast the differences

  14. Classifying Triangles • On poster paper create a graphic organizer classifying triangles in this format Classifying Triangles By Angles By Sides

  15. Poster • I will show you an example of what I am looking for…. • I will provide you with the poster paper…please put you name, date and period on the BACK of the poster • Use text page 263 to help you understand the differences • Your poster will be graded on completeness, accuracy of information and colorfulness. • This assignment is due tomorrow • I do not accept late assignments
