  4. 3. Explain the message of the cartoon. The book …Wealth of Nations was published by Adam Smith in 1776. In this book Smith coined the term “Invisible Hand” which has led some people to argue that a free market economic system will provide for the needs and wants of the population. The cartoon Today’s “Invisible Hand” implies that the developed world has forgotten or is ignoring the developing world and is not meeting its obligations with respect to giving these nations access to the Wealth of Nations.
